Yes and no. Although the virtues prescribed by the Catholic Faith must certainly be the cornerstone of the Ethics Statement, providing a clear statement in writing will communicate the apostolate’s and the leadership’s commitment to clear and effective Catholic values and their application in the workplace. In other words, it overtly and consciously applies the principles of the Catholic Faith to the apostolate’s operations. These standards, once adopted, would apply to everyone: trustees, staff and volunteers. The resulting accountability serves to guide and protect the practices at the institution.
An ethics statement may be as short as a paragraph or two or it may span several pages. Of course examples will be provided from other Catholic apostolates. A short example is provided herein and a link to a longer, more involved example is provided as well.
